Who Can You Trust In This Crazy World?
Crazy political situations abound. Environmental factors are causing the most extreme weather and natural disasters we have ever faced. The MN Twins traded Dozier and Escobar for heaven’s sake. OK, perhaps that last one is not on the same level. But you can’t deny that the world is often a crazy, uncertain and even scary place these days.
Yet, it’s actually the personal situations that rock our trust the most. Our own health concerns or the health of loved ones. Financial or career uncertainty. Sometimes it can be sudden loss that destroys our ability to trust. So what are the options? Whether you realize it or not, everyone makes a choice regarding where to place their trust. You either rely on yourself and the advice offered by the world, or you trust in the Lord.
Trust Takes Intimacy
You can’t trust someone you don’t know. Trust is established when you understand the character and personality of an individual. By walking along side someone we come to understand their intentions and true identity. So how do you come to know the character, intentions and true identity of God? You have to spend time with Him. It’s no different than any other relationship.
My daughter Jessica and I have recently completed a few reading plans on trust from the YouVersion bible app. If you’re not familiar with this amazing resource, I highly recommend checking it out. Summarized below, are some key points on how to trust the Lord from a plan called Jesus Speaks by Steven K. Scott.
Trust vs. Worry
- You can choose to worry vs trust God, but why would you do this? By redirecting your time into learning God’s Word, you will come to know God’s great love and plans for you. There are promises you can rely on in every book of the bible. By understanding these promises and learning to obey God’s word, your trust will be built on a solid, unchangeable rock.
Spirit vs. Information
- The internet provides an overwhelming amount of information. But in order to trust the Lord, you need His Spirit, not more information. Unplug from the firehose of information and plug into God. Search for Scripture that addresses God’s faithfulness from generation to generation. Meditate on these lessons and how they relate to your own life. His Word can actually provide answers to any challenge you face.
God’s Way vs. Your Way
- We often get very specific with the Lord about what we want or need. Instead, ask Him to help you in His way. Because His ways are far beyond our human understanding, He can accomplish so much more than we can possibly imagine. Would’t you prefer to have the creator of the universe, victor over Satan and provider of eternal life calling the shots? I know I would.
God Can Use Everything
- God’s Word has told us in advance that we WILL have trouble in this world, so we should not be surprised. Surely someone who gives us the inside scoop can be trusted, right? More importantly, God tells us that nothing is wasted. He can use all things in our life and bring goodness from them if we trust in Him. This goodness will flow to you and through you to others with similar challenges.

I love the way you said that – God is good company! He CAN do wonders for our attitude if we take the time to understand how His word applies to us personally.
Great post mom! I love the part where you said we tend to ask for God’s help in the way we think it should come but God’s ways are always better. I’m definitely guilty of this. I am learning to trust God and that his ways are perfect.
