A Surly Sort of Day

November 18, 2015 by cathyscooking@gmail.com 2 Comments

Mike at SurlyTwo great things came together to create this post – a trip to Surly Brewing for lunch yesterday and my first “blogging event.” This is where bloggers participate in a community event to blog on a given topic. I selected a food related blog called Tasty Thursdays….

We had been meaning to go to Surly for quite some time, to check out the food. The recent release of their Darkness beer, which is only available for a limited time, made this trip all the more urgent. Especially in the mind of my husband, the beer drinker in the family.

Brisket 4Lunch ended up being a compromise actually. We initially had plans to eat at Surly’s upper scale restaurant, the Brewer’s Table, this past weekend with friends. I found out after making the reservation, that they’re only licensed to serve beer throughout the facility. That didn’t work for the ladies in the party, who are dedicated wine drinkers.

But what a wonderful compromise lunch turned out to be, when we tucked into the best brisket I’ve ever tasted. The sides we selected included the skillet corn bread with honey butter, the baked beans with smoked meat, chipotle and molasses and the squash with greens and burnt chili vinaigrette.  Everything was delicious. The setting was industrial modern and the beer hall provides great views of the brewing tanks.  They also have on display, the artwork which has been created for the Surly beer labels and, of course, a store with Surly merchandise. We took advantage of all the amenities. A very enjoyable destination that we’ll be sure to visit again!

That brisket does sound amazing. And baked beans with chipotle and molasses? Oh my.
