Embrace Life in the Midst of Loss through this personal and heartfelt message.
Embrace Life in the Midst of Loss
Loss struck our family when Mike’s sister, Vicki, died after complications resulting from pneumonia. Death is always an emotional blow. Even when it comes after years of poor health, as it did in this case. Yet Vicki was very conscientious during these years, steering clear of Mike whenever she was ill. She knew Mike’s ALS prevented him from being near anyone with a serious illness. Unfortunately, that meant we hadn’t seen each other for some time, making our loss even more difficult.
So how do we embrace life in the midst of loss? Is this even possible? It is, if you understand that death does not get the final word. That’s because Jesus defeated death to cover our sins. More importantly, He rose again providing eternal life to all who believe in Him.
Covenant Relationships
My Spirit was strengthened just after Vicki’ s passing, when Danny Silk, founder of the Loving On Purpose summit, spoke at Hosanna! Of the many great topics Danny covered, it was the covenant topic that really touched my heart. Covenant isn’t really a word that we relate to these days. But covenants are important to God. So what is a covenant?
Covenant – two or more parties who come together to make a solemn agreement on promises, stipulations, privileges, and responsibilities.
Danny provided a wonderful visual to explain covenant relationships. He did this by using the Redwood Forest of California as an example. These magnificent sentinels can reach up to 30 stories high and 2000 years in age, yet have a tap-root which is very short. How can these mighty redwoods possibly survive in the face of Pacific coastal storms? They survive, because they have developed root systems which are intricately connected. These roots hold the community of trees together, grabbing tighter to weather the storms.
This is how we embrace life in the midst of loss. We hold tighter to the covenant relationships we have formed with family and friends. Their strength holds us up, just like a community of Redwoods. We also trust in God’s plan for eternal life – we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, our Savior.
If you were touched by this Thyme4Faith message, please share it with others. You never know who’s life you could impact by simply sharing hope and the love of Jesus. God bless.

Thanks Jess. I love the Redwood example too. It’s God’s way, through nature, of showing us how to live better in a tightly knit community.
