Immanuel – God with us. What does this mean? Does it change anything?
Immanuel – God With Us
Christmas is such a busy time of the year. So much preparation and partying. It’s really easy to get caught up in the swirl and lose focus on what’s most important. Yet, it’s not too hard to hit the reset and refocus button. How, you might wonder? Stop and consider that Jesus stepped down from heaven and became Immanuel – God with us. While His birth is an amazing event, His daily presence with us is really the profound part of the story.
I started down this path after reading God is With Us – Immanuel, a 7 day devotional from Samuel Deuth on the YouVersion bible app. A few of Samuel’s themes really touched me, so I decided to share my thoughts on them with you as well.
The Lord is Near to All Who Call On Him
- It’s important to know that God is with us during the major events in life, especially when we reach the end of ourselves. But it’s also important to rely on His presence for the smaller everyday challenges as well. I have come to realize this truth as we deal with the health and life changes we face.
- God’s presence is especially comforting, if you are struggling with the loss of a loved one during the holiday. Or if you don’t feel like celebrating because of your circumstances.
- Prince of Peace is one of the many names for Jesus. If you lack peace in your life due to relational, financial, or stress of any kind, let the Prince of Peace into your heart.
Jesus Came Because of Love
The reason Jesus decided to come to earth to be with us is pure and simple – Love. He knows that we need reminding we are truly valued and that God has a purpose for us. It might not always feel that way, but it’s true. Jesus is faithful in His love for us, even when we mess up big time. That’s when we need Immanuel the most.
Having a personal relationship with Jesus means you are not alone in life. Ever. Take time during this Christmas season to tune into this promise. Now, go a step further and make it a daily habit. Even just a few minutes focused on the presence of Jesus in your life will change your outlook and your heart.
