There are times when we hit a dead end, become depleted or our tank is on empty. What do we do then?
Is Your Tank on Empty?
At times we’re cruising down the road of life and everything is going great. We feel like we have all that we need and that we are firing on all cylinders. Hurrah for times like these! But at others times our tank is drained and we are not sure how to move forward.
How to be Content in Any Circumstances
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him give me strength. – Philippians 4:12-13
How is this possible, contentment in every situation? Again, it’s about perspective. God’s perspective. In the apostle Paul’s case (the author of Philippians), he was focused on what he was supposed to do and not what he felt he should have. Wow, that’s a new way to look at things!
Paul was grateful for everything God had given him. He detached himself from the nonessential, so that he could concentrate on the eternal. Hmmm, I wonder what that looks like? Maybe having the latest smart phone, outfit, or whatever your drawn to when you feel empty, isn’t where lasting contenment lies.
Maybe, being grateful for each day is the key. It is called the present for a reason! Focusing on loving the people that God puts in our path, whether we know them or not, is the way to rise above our circumstances. Love? Really? The way to be content in all circumstances? Yes. Letting God’s love hold you and flow through you. This snippet of lyrics from Brandon Heath’s song, Love Never Fails, says it so well. In fact, if you go through the lines below and swap the word love, for the word Jesus, you’ll see what I mean.
Love is the river that flows through
Love never fails you
Love will sustain
Love will provide
Love will not cease
At the end of time
Love will protect
Love always hopes
Love still believes
When you don’t
