Join me for this wrap-up of the Thyme4Faith Road Trip series, which recaps our Traverse City adventure, through the eyes of faith. See how adapting to change, and admitting how much you resemble your sibling, can be a good thing (I think.) Remember to Like, Comment and Share!
One of the things that has driven our frenzied pace of travel since Mike’s ALS diagnosis, is the desire to spend quality time with friends and family. That was definitely the case for this trip, with my brother Jeff and sister-in-law Bridget (who qualify as both family and friends.) While we have many great memories from past trips, it had been awhile since we vacationed together. That meant we were really looking forward to our road trip to Traverse City, MI.
Changes in Life
We enjoyed many great meals, wine tasting, shopping and Cherry festival excursions. But it is how we adapted to our changed lives, that I will remember the most. Conserving and rejuvenating energy, were key themes for the week. Both for Bridget, a breast cancer survivor, and for Mike, as his ALS progresses. This meant waiting until late morning to start our days, to accommodate a little extra shut-eye for Bridget. When we did strike out for the day, we’d stroll a bit more slowly, over shorter distances, to make things easier for Mike.
With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love. – Ephesians 4:2
You Will Become Your Mother (or Brother)
There are many jokes about how it’s inevitable for women, they will become their mothers. The light bulb for me on this trip, was how similar my personality is to my brother’s. We both love cooking, are dedicated to keeping fit, have a humorous streak and lean towards the side of impatience. As I say this, I must caveat the fact that Jeff’s patience and kindness runs deep for those things that matter most – his family, and the school kids he supports as a paraprofessional and a coach.
Road trips are a great way to uncover treasures in the world around us, and in the people traveling with us. We have so enjoyed our trips, and I have enjoyed sharing them with you, through the eyes of faith. I encourage you to embrace your life adventures, and to see them through a new faith-based perspective. Doing this will make your life richer, and will positively effect the lives of those around you.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. – Mathew 5:16

What a great message Cathy! Putting others needs first and being an “adaptable” person will bring blessings to everyone. I love that you share links to go deeper. I really enjoyed the message from Hosanna.God is good!

So glad you listened to the Taking the High Road message from the Hosanna sermon. Pastor Julia is an amazing speaker. I could listen to her all day! š
