What the World Needs Now – Relevant Faith
Heart breaking news stories have abounded lately. Mass shootings, deadly wildfires, multiple senseless tragedies in my home state of Wisconsin. Is it just me, or does the darkness feel like it’s accelerating? Then I read a front page article in the StarTribune last Sunday titled Fastest Growing Religion is “None.” Instead, people are turning to yoga, nature, or their own version of spiritualism. The key reason sighted – people feel the messages coming from a traditional church are not relevant to them. This lead me to wonder whether a decline in faith and the current state of the world were related? Perhaps, what the world needs now, is a relevant faith that can provide an unshakable foundation.
As it turns out, there actually are churches that can translate God’s promises and commands into relevant advice for everyday living. My faith home Hosanna! is just one example. They understand that people need to find strength and hope for all that we face. By diving deep into Scripture, a relevant faith is able to rely on the same timeless truths that sustained people through times as difficult as this. Biblical times were rife with darkness as well. While things like yoga or nature aren’t bad, can they sustain you through the hardest parts of life? A life where everything can change in a heartbeat?
Unchangeable in a Sea of Change
After having our world upended four and a half years ago with ALS, I was lost in a sea of change. Quitting my job, selling homes and cars and putting new workable solutions in place. Change was also happening in my family’s life, which further rocked my world. But I am not unique. Everyone experiences difficult, unwanted change at certain points in life.
At times like this, we need to be able to count on something which is solid and unchangeable. Something, or more concisely, someone who provides a power outside of our own. Especially when we reach the end of ourselves. No matter what impacts you personally, or the world around you, salvation through Jesus does not change. When God gave his children free will, he knew that evil was a real outcome. But God loves us too much to leave us unprotected. He ensured we had a way to overcome evil, and even our death, through the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross. No matter what happens throughout time, this does not change.

This is one of my favorite post you’ve ever written! This is what is wrong with our society, we have removeGod from every area, and it is obvious that our world is turning more wicked by the day. People are searching but for the completely wrong thing. People avoid Christianity because they would have to be confronted with their own sin. Instead they fill their life with the wrong thing. God is the only answer!

You nailed it! As I think about what to write for each Thyme4Faith post, I wonder what new can I possibly say? Then God lifts my eyes to the world around me and says, write about this and tell them why they need me.
