As mentioned in the Hallelujah a Holiday Pot Luck post, here’s Linda’s Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts recipe. As they say, everything is better with bacon and these water chestnuts are are no exception. They are a slightly messy finger food, but no more so than a chicken wing. As we all know, life can be messy at times. We have to ask ourselves, is it worth it? The answer in a word…
YES!!
Ingredients
- 2 cups of ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 pound bacon
- 2 cans whole water chestnuts, drained (8 ounces each)
Instructions
- Wrap ½ piece of bacon around each chestnut and place in baking pan.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes, turning once.
- Combine ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and brown sugar in a bowl and stir to combine.
- Transfer wrapped water chestnuts to a clean pan (to decrease bacon grease), dabbing each one on paper towel when transferred.
- Pour sauce over wrapped water chestnuts or dip each in sauce to coat more evenly.
- Bake in new pan for an additional 30 minutes.
- If there is any extra sauce, pour over the wrapped water chestnuts and keep them warm in a small crock pot, if desired.
